Welcome to POETRY +, a monthly reading series hosted by Art on Madison for emerging and established writers from Cleveland and beyond.
POETRY + was founded by artist Timothy Gaewsky with the aim of shining the spotlight on a single writer, providing that writer with the platform and time necessary to present a body of their work and to connect with their audience. In 2019, Timothy handed over curation of the POETRY + series to Ohio Beat Poet Laureate John Burroughs, who decided to expand it to feature two great writers, one from out of town and one local, each month. POETRY + is open to all forms of poetry, short and flash fiction, and performative happenings. Since March 2020, POETRY + has been on indefinite hiatus.
Art on Madison was a gallery as well as the working studio space of artist Ivan Kende, located at 14203 Madison Ave. Lakewood, OH 44107. Art on Madison presented regular exhibitions of local and regional artists until it closed in 2020.
POETRY + was always free and open to the public. Doors opened at 7:00pm, and readings began promptly at 7:30pm.
